The Project to Host Dessert Contest with $1,000 Cash Prize
[MOLINE, IL, July 22, 2024] – The Project of the Quad Cities (TPQC) is seeking local restaurants and bakeries to compete in its first ever Red Ribbon Dessert Contest on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport. Participants will create desserts that match the theme with the best bite of the night receiving a cash prize of $1,000.
The December dessert contest is a part of The Project’s Red Ribbon Candyland Ball, a re-imagined version of the organization’s annual fundraiser.
“For over 30 years the Red Ribbon Dinner has benefited people living with HIV,” said Development Director Tyler Mitchell (he/him). “As we look to the future, we want to expand that impact by pairing our community’s desire to give with an incredible experience based in entertainment and delicious sweets.”
Mitchell says any local bakery or restaurant is welcome to apply, even those not necessarily in the dessert-making business.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to experiment and let your imagination run wild,” he said. “We have some truly incredible culinary talents in our community that we want to showcase while supporting The Project’s work and the people we serve,” he said.
As for how the contest works, attendees will sample desserts in small bites and vote with their dollars for their favorite. With a $1,000 cash prize on the line, Mitchell anticipates a fierce competition.
The Project will accept dessert contest applications through the end of August at tpqc.org/candyland.
