Common Questions
-
No, it uses oral fluid. The test collects cells by taking a swab of your gums. The test looks for antibodies to HIV. These are proteins your body makes in response to having HIV infection.
-
How accurate the test is for you will depend on how recent your possible exposure to HIV was. The Window Period is the time between infection and when a test can accurately detect that infection. The at home test has a window period of about 3 months.
-
It takes only 20 mins to get results.
-
The OraQuick In-Home HIV Test is a qualitative test that is designed to be visually read. It can provide results such as: preliminary positive, negative, and invalid (test was not working)
-
You should not use the In-Home test if:
-You are under the age 17 (The test has not yet been approved by the FDA for this age group).
-You have participated in an HIV vaccine trial (Trial vaccines may cause you to get a result that is not accurate).
-You are concerned about a possible exposure to HIV within the last 3 months (e.g. unprotected sex, sharing needles or injection drug equipment).
-You are experiencing symptoms of a possible recent HIV infection. These symptoms can include fever, fatigue, sore throat, rash, swollen tonsils or lymph nodes, headache, joint or muscle aches, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, or night sweats.
